Simple Sketches: Sketch 1

Today marks the first official day of Simple Sketches!!!  Melissa designed a great sketch for us to start with:

I decided that my coffee needed a page (even if my hubby didn't think so!).  I have fallen in love with Toffee Almond Cream creamer.  I'm sure my tastes will change again, but I really wanted to document my love for it now.  After seeing the papers in August's Studio Calico kits, I figured it would make a great page.

Yes, I used that actual coffee cup, and coffee, to make the rings on my page.  I did "enhance" the ring a little with some ink because the coffee didn't leave dark enough rings for my liking.  The "Morning" started actual white Thickers.  I sanded them a little and colored them with a little paint.  I really dig the variation of colors it gives me.

Make sure you check out the Simple Sketches to see every one's take on the sketch.  They are all so fun and different!!!  You can even link up your take on the sketch on the site.

Cheers!

SSI: Friday Favorites

Today is Friday Favorites over at Stylin' Stampin' Inkspiration.  This is where we get to highlight some of our favorite Stampin' Up products.  For me, it is the great new Designer Series Paper: Quatrefancy Specialty.  I am a sucker for pretty much anything quatrefoil.  When I saw this paper, I knew I HAD to get some!!! While I only used a bit of it on this card, I love the pop of color it provides.

Practical Scrappers: Staples

Today on Practical Scrappers, we are featuring projects with staples.  I love to use staples as accents...and to hold ribbon on to projects, like I did here.

This layout was based off Scrapbook Steal's Aquamarine 7 MWM sketch and the paper and embellishments are from Gossamer Blue's August kit.

Practical Scrappers: Project Life Day 2

Thank you Charissa Miller and Practical Scrappers for getting me started on Project Life.  Yes, I have said it before, and I'll say it again, I'm sure.  I can really see how this form of scrapping can be addictive.  I love that I can scrap a lot of moments in my Project Life book that I might not want to make full scrapbook pages about.

Here is Day 2 of my trip to Florida.

I combined cards from Studio Calico and Becky Higgins' Blush collection.  A little sewing and a few wooden and chipboard embellishments from Studio Calico complete the page.

If you want more examples of some great Project Life pages, make sure you check out the Practical Scrappers' page today.

Thanks for visiting.

Cheers!

SSI: Framelit Friday

Happy Friday!

The 2nd Friday of the month is Framelit Friday on the Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration blog.  I am actually featuring 2 Framelits on my card today: Hearts A Flutter and Bitty Banners.

Recipe:
Stamps: Express Yourself (# 130336)
Paper: Whisper White (#100730), Polka Dot Parade (#126902)
Ink: Basic Black (#126980)
Framelits: Hearts A Flutter (#130159), Bitty Banners (#129267)
Embossing Folder: Chevron (#127749)
Etc.: White Baker's Twine (#124262), Stampin' Dimensionals (#104430)

The base of this card is made from a 4.25" x 8.5" strip of Whisper White.  I then embossed a 4" square of Whisper White paper with the Chevron folder.  After tying some of the baker's twine around the square, I adhered it to the base with Stampin' Dimensionals.  I stamped Congratulations on Whisper White and cut it using one of the banner dies from Bitty Banners.  I used both hearts from the Hearts A Flutter set.  I nested them together on my Big Shot platform to create the heart inside a heart.  The big heart is simply glued down.  I added a Dimensionals under the little heart so it would pop off the page.

Practical Scrappers: Sew Crazy Sketch Challenge

I love Scrapbook Page Sketch Day on Practical Scrappers.  I love the sketches Liz gives us to work with.  Here is August's sketch:

And here is my take on it:

And here is a little close up of the sewing I did on my sketch.  I *may* have gone a little crazy with the decorative sketches on my sewing machine...there are actually 4 different stitches on the layout.

I used my August Gossamer Blue kit for the papers.  I fell in love with this chevron paper.  It is actually where I started on this page.  Do you do that?  Start with paper, then find pictures to go with it?  The embellishments are an assortment from my stash.

Cheers!

Practical Scrappers: Paint

Howdy!  I'm switching gears from an inky card yesterday to painted layout today.  Practical Scrappers is featuring projects with paint.  There are some wonderful ideas over at the site.  When you are done here, you should go check them out.

Here is my project:

I used Tim Holtz paint in Iced Spruce and Bundled Sage (applied with a dry brush) to create the background on the right side of my page.  I love the "rough edges" the dry brush gives the paint.  I really like how the transparent arrows allow the painted background to show through.

The paper and many of the embellishments came from my August Gossamer Blue kit and the sketch is from ScrapbookSteals.com's Aquamarine 5 sketch.

Cheers!

SSI: Card Sketch

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  I'm back today with another project for Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration, a card sketch.  I loved the simplicity of the sketch and how you could take it any direction you wanted.  For me, it was in the direction of a masculine card for my nephew's 19th birthday.

Recipe:
Stamps: Remembering your Birthday (#131350)
Paper: This & That Epic Day DSP (#130814), Baked Brown Sugar (#131296)
Ink: Chocolate Chip (# 126979), Midnight Muse (#126860)
Etc.: Brights Candy Dots (#130931), Epic Day This & That Designer Stickers (#131271)

This card started with one of the journaling stickers from the Epic Day This and That Designer Sticker collection.  I flipped it sideways and adhered it to a rectangle cut from the DSP from the Epic Day Product Suite.  To get the words, I colored just the "happy" from one of the stamps in the Remembering Your Birthday set (I repeated this with "birthday" on the inside).  A few little flags cut from that same banner (the dots are the b-side of the chevron paper), some candy dots, and lots of Chocolate Chip ink to give that distressed look, finished off the card.

Practical Scrappers: Project Life

Wow!  Project Life!  I started out in January going, I'm going to be good and do this every week.  I even made the title page for my book.  And there the book sits, with that 1 page in it.  Somehow time just gets away from me before I get a page done.  Not anymore.  I will get pages made!!!

I have to give a huge shout out to Charissa Miller for giving me a kick in the bum inspiring me to get going on some project life pages.  I thought it would be fun to document my trip to Florida Project Life Style.  I will also be making "standard" scrapbook pages about the trip, but I thought this would be fun to document the little things that I might not want to make a WHOLE page about.  You may remember my title page for this.  If not, you can check it out here.

And here is the page about Day 1 - 540 miles on the road.  I admit, I do need to do a little journaling, like getting the route details from hubby for the North/South/East/West card, but you can see where I'm going here.

I had fun with this page.  I'm excited to make more.  I used a lot of goodies from Gossamer Blue's new Life Pages kit.  I LOVE the kit.  Perfect for this layout, and the rest to come.

Thank you for checking this out!  I hope you have a great weekend!

SSI: Quick & Easy Cards

Happy Friday!

Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration blog is featuring quick and easy cards today.  I don't think you can get much faster than this one, at least for me.  ;-)

Recipe:
Stamps: Flower Shop (#130942), Express Yourself (# 130336)
Paper: Strawberry Slush (#131295), Whisper White (100730)
Ink: Staz-on Jet Black (#101406
Etc.: Brights Candy Dots (#130931), 3/16" Corner Punch (#119871), watercolors

By stamping the flower with the Staz-on ink and letting it dry a minute, I was able to paint it with some watercolors (from my stash).  A quick punch with a corner rounder and 3 little candy dots and there you are!

PGCB: Glitter, Glitter, Glitter!

Happy Monday!

Today is the first Monday in August, which means it is time for a new challenge over at The Paper Girls Challenge.  (Can it really be August already?!?)  Judy's challenge for PGCB was to use glitter on your project.  I firmly believe you either love the stuff or hate it.  I love the sparkle it adds to a layout...so much so that, I used two different sparkly pieces on this layout.  :-)

Ok, I said I love glitter, but I should add that I love glitter that sticks to paper and doesn't leave a trail everywhere.  On this layout, I used Glitter Thickers and Stampin' Up Champagne Glimmer Paper.  I am happy to report, no glitter was left behind from these products.  ;-)  The papers I used on this project were from Amy Tangerine's Lucky Charm, with the cut-off strip from Webster's Pages/Allison Kreft's  Candy Heart's paper.  Who says you can't use those cut-offs?!?

If you like this layout, you should check out the Aquamarine 4 sketch at ScrapbookSteals.com to see where I started!

Cheers!

Here is how I framed out my page:

And after a little cutting, a little sewing, and some embellishment, here is how my page came out.

I love the fun mix of patterns and embellishments from July's Gossamer Blue's kit.  They played so nicely with my Kiwi Lane templates!

Practical Scrappers: Card Sketch

Practical Scrappers has a fun card sketch up on the blog today:

And here is my card:

I kind of flipped the picture (sun) element to be on the left instead of the right.  But I had the balloon from Fancy Pant's What a Wonderful Day ephemera pack and I really wanted to use it!  The sun paper is from Amy Tangerine's Yes Please collection and the stamp is from Stampin' Up's Around the World collection.

I love the bright, cheerful feel of this card.  And, I will be using the card sketch again, I'm sure!

Cheers!
