A Flowery Blog Hop

It's time again for the Paper Girls Blog Hop!  You should have come here from Jessica Arrant.

Here is the line up:
The Paper Girls Challenge Blog

If you haven't seen all the other wonderful projects, be sure to hop through.  There is a prize to be won.  More on that later.

Today's hop is all about the flowers.  I love flowers.  It is has been a wet Spring here.  While the plants are loving all the water, it has been a little hard on all the petals.  That's why I love the flowers everyone made for this hop.  They will last and last!

For my project, I made a birthday tag.

To start, I used the EK Tools Doily Petals Dimensional Flower Punch and punched 2-12" strips.  After gluing the strips together, I rolled them together.  If you have ever made one of these rolled flowers, you may be looking at this and saying, "Wait, this is upside dow!"  And you would be right.  As I turned the flower over to roll the edges of the petals, I noticed how the rolled part made a great center for a flower, so I decided to use it that way.  To me, it looks like a quilled piece.  To highlight the petal edges and the center, I quickly brushed a Versamark ink pad across the tip of the petals and the center of the flower.  A dusting of purple metallic embossing powder and a little heat from my heat gun and the flower was set to go.

Here is a close up of the flower so can see a little more detail:

This is Spring?

It's that time again.  Time for my Tuesday Tip Time, as part of the Kiwi Lane Design Team.  I was super excited to use Doodlebug’s Essential Flower Box Collection for this project along with the Chestnut Drive, Celebrate and Tiny Floral template sets (now on sale in the Kiwi Lane store!) .  The papers in the Flower Box collection were so bright and springy – so cheerful.
With that being said, here is my 2 page layout featuring twine and my templates:

Templates used: Chestnut Drive 1B, 2B, 3A, 3B; Celebrate 3, 7, 8; and Tiny Floral 2T

I know what you are going to say.  Hey, wait, those are winter pictures on that spring paper!!!  And you would be right, except these pictures were taken on March 25th…a few days into spring – and after 8” of snow fell the day before.  ;-)  I thought the wintery pictures would be a fun play on the spring paper.
To start this layout, I grabbed some solid cardstock and started laying out my templates (though you will see I made a quite few changes after taking this picture):

After seeing Celebrate 8 template, I thought it would be a fun way to highlight the title for this page.  So I traced the template on some cardstock.  After cutting it out, I started winding the twine around the shape.  Hint: Make sure you add a little tape or glue to both sides of the shape to make the twine sit flat.  I love the fun pattern the twine added to the swoosh (Sorry Nike, that's all I can think of calling this shape).

I also added twine to the spaces between the flower.  Here you can see how both the title swoosh and flower look with a pop of twine.

Looking at all the happy paper on my table, I just had to make a card.  I was able to use a lot of scraps from making the scrapbook layout to make this card, including the cut-offs from Chestnut 1B and 3B.  I also used some leftover rectangle pieces to make the pinwheel and oval, using Celebrate 4 and Shapes 4T.

I have to say the best part of these projects for me was having my mom, who is not a scrapper, sit next to me and see how easy it is to make a layout, especially with the Kiwi Lane Templates to help!  Maybe I’ll make a scrapper out of her yet!  J

Where are you Headed?

Hi!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Monday.  We are enjoying my mom visiting.  We are really going to miss her when she goes back to California tomorrow.

Today also marks the 30th challenge at The Paper Girls Challenge.  Wow!  30!!!!  That is amazing.  Thank you to those of you who have participated in our challenges.  If you haven't jumped in yet, now is a good time.  This challenge is to do a Travel/Vacation themed project.  Remember, it can be a card, layout, Project Life layout or even an altered art project.

I was all set to do a layout featuring my kids going to my mom when we picked her up at the airport last week.  Unfortunately, we got stuck in HORRIBLE traffic and she was already at the curb with her luggage when we got there.  So there went that layout.  Instead, I decided to make a card.

I had fun mixing stamps, sprays, tags, twines and the very popular paper clips into the card.

I hope you enjoyed checking out this card.  See you tomorrow with a fun Kiwi Lane Tuesday Tip Time project!

Cheers!

Catching up with a Winner and PGCB...

Hello!  Happy Tuesday Everyone!

I'm doing a little catchup today.  I should have posted my Paper Girls Challenge # 29 Project and my 100 Follower Giveaway winner yesterday, but the day got away from me before I got everything done.  So here I am, head hanging, taking care of both posts at one time.

Want to know who won the giveaway?!?  Well, I'm going to make you wait just a little longer.  ;-)  First I want to share the card I made for The Paper Girls Challenge.  I love the thought of April Showers Bring May Flowers.  You can take that in so many different directions.  I went a little more literal with my card.  I used Stampin' Up's Million Dollar Moments stamp set, along with some Reflections drop shaped gems, Stampin' Up markers and a little Echo Park printed paper and to make this card.

We would love to see what you have in mind when you hear "April showers bring May flowers."  Be sure to post your projects over on the Paper Girls Challenge blog by April 13th for a chance to win a fun prize pack.

And now, the winner of my 100 Follower Giveaway and a set of Kiwi Lane's Celebrate templates:

Congrats Cherie G!  Please email your mailing address to kmackeen1@gmail.com and I'll get these sent to you ASAP.  Thank you!

If you didn't win, but would like to get these templates (along with Kiwi Lane's other wonderful templates), be sure to check out the Kiwi Lane store.  Celebrate, Chestnut Drive and Tiny Floral are the featured sets of the month, and are 10% off until the end of April.

Cheers!
