Practical Scrappers: Sketch Challenge

Today's feature on Practical Scrappers is a sketch challenge.  I loved the sketch Liz came up with.  It is so such a fun layout, and perfect for a layout of my Road Warriors (including me).  I did flip it 180 degrees, so I could use my new "road" washi tape from Freckled Fawn on the layout - it only seemed appropriate.  :-)

Here is the sketch:

And here is my take on it, using my July Gossamer Blue kit...

Thanks for visiting me today.  See you tomorrow with some more fun stuff!

Cheers!

Practical Scrappers: Emerald, White and Royal Blue

Today's feature at Practical Scrappers is to use Emerald, White and Royal Blue.  When I heard this, I KNEW I had to dig into my Kate & Co papers by My Mind's Eye.  The colors of the Oxford Lane collection is perfect for this challenge.  I also loved My Mind's Eye's July Sketch Challenge - make sure you check it out.  And the whole color scheme worked great with some more of the photos from our shoot with Stephanie Watkins.

Here is my layout:

I have a confession to make on this one!  When I was doing my masking/mist layout for Practical Scrappers a couple weeks ago, I had a lot of misfires before I got to that final layout.  This is background paper was one of them.  I used Studio Calico's Blizzard Mr. Huey to create the background, but it just wasn't working with what I had in mind so I set it aside.  I KNEW I would be able to work it into something.  ;-)  I think it worked great here.

Cheers!

PGCB #36: Watercolor!

I'm a little late posting this.  Yesterday, The Paper Girls Challenge posted a new challenge: using watercolors on your layout.  If you haven't seen all the beautiful work put together by The Paper Girls, go check it out

For my layout, I used a sketch from Simple Sketches as a jumping off point (excuse the pun).  I absolutely loved the sketch and I will be using it again!  Have you ever heard of Peerless Watercolor Papers?  They are these amazing little sheets that have some highly concentrated pigment embedded on it.  I got them in the mail right before we left on vacation and I've been itching to try them out!  It is amazing how much paint is on the little sheets.  I used some Stampin' Up Bridesmaid paper that had some vertical lines embossed on it.  They really stand out when I applied the watercolors to it.  A few diecut circles, some stamped water splashes, and my Kiwi Lane templates, and I have a fun layout about my son learning to dive.  :-)

Cheers!

Practical Scrappers: Tags

I was having a fun time combining a few challenges with today's layout.  First, Practical Scrappers is featuring the 10 Thing team (that's me) using tags.  You can see the tag I stamped with "Hello Love" to highlight my honey.

The starting point of this layout was the Aquamarine 1 sketch on ScrapbookSteals.com (seen here).  I'm also fulfilling one of their Birthday Challenges, but using 4 washi tapes on this layout.  The papers are from the Studio Calico July kit.  The other embellishments are from the Gossamer Blue July kit.  (Yes, I'm mixing it up a little here.  ;-) )

Cheers!

Kiwi Lane Designs: Let's get shrunk!

Whew!  Busy day here at Mama's Sanity.  I'm also up today with a quick Weekend Whimsy project at Kiwi Lane Designs

I love the Paradise templates from Kiwi Lane (well, I love them all, really).  When I saw they were the featured templates for July, I though, how fun would it be to make necklaces for my kids?  And I knew the washi from Downtown Tape would make a great accent on the necklaces.  So I found some shrink paper hiding in my stash and went about to making some necklaces.  I love how they came out.  For a more details about how I made these, check out the Kiwi Lane blog today.

Practical Scrappers: Project Life Kick Off

Today is the kick off of the Practical Scrappers' Project Life team.  Before we left for Florida, I knew I wanted to kind of a hybrid style scrapbook for the trip.  I am going to do project life pages about each day in the front and traditional scrapbook pages about the special moments in the back.  Every book needs a cover page, right?  So here is mine.  I may tweak it as I work on the book, but for now, I'm happy with it!

It is a simple design, but I didn't want to cover up too much of the sunset.  I printed a 12x12 photo (you can do this at Costco if you don't have access to a widepath printer) and simply cut it to fit into Becky Higgins' page protector.

Don't forget, I have a giveaway going on.  Make sure you click here!

Cheers!

Practical Scrappers: Misting

I love using mists.  You have probably seen them show up on a lot of my layouts, whether as little splatters, or even drawing with straw from the spritzer.

When the topic came up today on Practical Scrappers, I jumped at the chance to do a layout.  I thought it would be fun to use my mists to create a title on my page. I had some Heidi Swapp mask letters that I used to create this title.  One thing I learned (the HARD way) is to make sure the letters are stuck down REALLY well before starting to spritz.  After the mist dried, I outlined the letters with a black marker and then pulled up the mask letters.  There was some bleed under by the mists, but I am really happy with how it came out.

PGCB #35: 3 Journaling Cards

Happy Monday!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer!  Ours is in full swing here.  Sorry I've been a little MIA on my blog lately (I'll be making up for 2 weeks off with LOTS of new projects coming!).  We were in Florida for a fun filled family vacation.  It was a wonderful time and I took a TON of photos.  You will be seeing a lot of them over the next weeks...or months.  ;-)  And here is the first...

There is a new challenge today over at The Paper Girls Challenge...using 3 journaling cards on a project.  Can you find them on these project?

I wanted to show that journaling cards don't have to be just for journaling.  I cut 3 from Crate Paper's The Pier Accents and Border pages:
  • The geotag with the journaling (which was actually cut out from the full journaling card)
  • The yellow "Happy" tag
  • The pink square with the white scallop circle behind the geotag and the beach ball, also from The Pier collection
I also used Scallop templates from Kiwi Lane Designs to add a little color and patterned paper (all from the Gossamer Blue June kit) to the page.

See you tomorrow with another fun new project!
