Kristy MacKeen<-- You are Here

There is my project for the Blog Hop. I have always wanted to do an advent calendar for my kids for Christmas. I was so excited when I saw this drawer set that I knew I wanted to use it to make the calendar.  I am new to the whole Altered Art scene, but I really wanted to give it a try, so I jumped in with both feet and made the calendar!

This turned out to be a Stampin' Up project, without me even trying. I used their Festival of Prints Designer Series Paper, the 1/2" punch and a lot of Modge Podge.

To make the covers for the drawers, I cut 1 3/8" squares, then used the 1/2" punch to make the "finger hole" for the drawer.

After a little distress ink and a lot of Modge Podge, here is how the finished drawers look. You might notice the numbers don't look like the stamps in my "tools" picture. That is because I had a happy surprise in the drawers when I started to cover them. I didn't realize there were number stickers in one of the drawers when I started the project. So after coloring all the stamps from 25 & Counting (Stampin' UP) and punching them with the 1" sqaure punch, I realized I liked the included numbers better. Oh well. It was good practice in coloring little stamps.

Looks like my little guy is ready to see what is inside... ;-) One more month buddy, one more month.

PGC #18: A Picture Inspiration

Hi!
Welcome back for the 18th Paper Girls Challenge.  Sorry this post is a little late.  After returning from Salt Lake City, I crashed last night and didn't get chance to write my post.  It was so much fun being in SLC for the weekend.  I got to meet 4 of my fellow Paper Girls, some for the first time.  I'm just sorry that I didn't get to meet the other 4.

I love the photo Judy gave us to work with for this challenge.  The colors are simply beautiful - some of my favorites, for sure.

I created this layout with some of American Craft's Gardenia papers and Pebbles letters.  I loved how the colors from the inspiration photo worked for my 8x8 photo of me and my daughter.

Thank you for visiting.

Cheers!

PCG #17: Transparencies...

Wow!  What a challenge from Charissa on The Paper Girls Challenge - using a transparency or acetate on a project.

I saw this tree on my Stampin' Up Window Sheets and thought it would make a great masculine card.(you can never have too many of those).  I attached the window sheet to the printed paper with the 3 brads.  The twine keeps it from "swinging" around.

Here's what I used:

Stampin' Up:
  • Window Sheets
  • Festival of Prints
  • Tiny Tag stamps
  • Jewelry Tag punch
  • Twine
Studio Calico:
  • Tweets wood veneers
Misc. brads

Thank you for stopping by.  If you like any of the Stampin' Up products I use, you can buy them by clicking Shop Now on my Stampin' Up site: StampinKristy.StampinUp.net

I can't wait for the next challenge - because I will be able to work in it with 4 of the other Paper Girls at the ScrapbookSteals.com Crop in Salt Lake City the second weekend of Oct.  Very excited to meet/see some of them again!

Cheers!

PGC #16: Baby Mine

I loved Heather's challenge on Paper Girls Challenge - do a project about your baby, whatever that may be.  That was easy for me.  I had just printed 2 pictures of my "babies" from our recent family vacation.  I love how Amy Tangerine's Sketchbook papers worked for these picture.  I used the 6x6 pad to make the "quilted" background so I didn't have to waste 12x12 paper.  ;-)  After I figured out my grid, I went to work doodling around the squares.  I have to say, this came out as one of my favorite layouts I have done lately.

I can't believe my "baby boy" just recently kindergarten (he is growing up too fast...).  To see the frame I made to commemorate that day, scroll down or click here.

I'm so glad you stopped by. If you are new here, I would love it if you would click that little "Follow" button over there on the right. When I hit 100 followers, I will give away a little blog candy. Now, who doesn't like candy? ;-) And for every increment of 50, I will add another prize. How does that sound?
Don't forget you have until Sept 29th to link up your "My Baby" layout to The Paper Girls Challenge site.  Happy creating!

Cheers!

WRMK Guest Spot

Hi!

Welcome to Mama's Sanity!

I am so excited to be featured on We R Memory Keeper's Facebook page today.  I love their products.  I was lucky enough to go to Chicago in July and help with one of their classes at CHA (the MAJOR trade show for crafting manufacturers and buyers alike).  I was thrilled when they asked for guests, and am humbled that I am the first in their series of Facebook Guest Designers.

For this spot, I was sent Hall Pass to work with.  This was perfect for me since my oldest just started Kindergarten.  I loved the colors in this kit.  They work great for both boy and girl pictures.  There is so much variety between A & B sides, you could easily use this paper for more than just school projects.

That said, I did end up using the papers for a school project - a frame for one of the few smiley pictures I snapped of my son on his first day of school.  This started out as a plain $1.50 wooden frame from Michael's.  To the amazing Hall Pass papers, I added a little ink, some Modge Podge Matte and a couple screws, and here is what I got:

I was a little nervous with this being one of my first "altered projects".  I think the biggest compliment I got on this was, "Wow Mom!  That's awesome!" from my little guy.  I'm glad I was able to do a frame he likes, to showcase his big day.

Thank you for stopping by!  I hope you will continue to visit.

Cheers!

My Bebes - Pearl 8

I had to share this page. There is a lot I love about this LO. Starting with using paper I never thought I would. I love the Miss Caroline collection from My Mind's Eye. The colors are my colors for sure. I love the "wreath" (or snowflakes). It totally reminded me of hearts when I cut it. And last, but not least, I LOVE this picture of my two kids, my bebes, which aren't bebes anymore. :-(

Thanks again to Scrapbook Steals for the wonderful Pearl 8 sketch.

Thanks for taking a peek at one of my new favorite layouts.  Be sure to come back tomorrow and see a special project I did for one of my favorite manufacturers...

Cheers!

PGC #15 - Big Picture

So what's the big picture?  Do you have a big picture you want to scrap?  Then the challenge over at The Paper Girls Challenge is the one for you.  I love Erica's challenge to use a picture larger than 5x7.

Here are 2 layouts for the challenge today:

The first layout uses a 3"x 9" collage.  I absolutely love my son's expression when he realized there was a hippo right behind him on a recent trip to the zoo.

Now you may be scratching you head on how this next layout fits in the Big Picture challenge.  Well, the background is actually a picture I took of the shale in Glacier National Park, then printed onto a 12x12 piece of paper to use as a background for this page.  I call that the ultimate big picture for a scrapbooker.  ;-)

Happy Labor Day everyone in the US and happy end of summer to everyone everywhere.  I can't wait to see all the pages with Big Pictures posted over at The Paper Girls Challenge!

Cheers!
