Kiwi Lane Design: Ink Your Templates!

Happy Tuesday!

I'm up today with a fun Tip Time Tuesday at Kiwi Lane Designs.  I was surprised that we hadn't done the tip of using ink with the templates.  The thought came to me when I was doing my blog hop page.  I love the look of moving a Post-it Note around a background and inking it to make a cloud background.  I thought the scallops would create a great background using the same technique.  Head over to the Kiwi Lane blog for more details on how I made this page:

Thank you Stephanie (Stephanie Watkins Photography) for the great photos to work with.  They worked perfectly with My Mind's Eye Oxford Lane!

I also made a quick birthday card for my grandma with leftover MME paper and my Brackets 2 template.  I have mentioned how quick KLD templates make things, right?

Cheers!

May Arts Nautical Craft Challenge

I am very excited to be part of the May Arts Nautical Challenge.  If you aren't aware of how their challenges work, here is the quick version: they send out a call once a month asking for applicants.  Only 20 are picked.  I was very surprised when I saw my name on the list.

I have spent a lot of time around boats thanks to my grandparents, specifically my grandfather.  Every time I see nautical themed projects, I think of him.  I took this opportunity to work with some pictures of him from opening day of Balboa Yacht Club yacht club in Newport Beach, CA and his 90th birthday.  He was the oldest Staff Commodore on Opening Day and led the whole processional to start the event.  Watching this brought a tear to my eyes (and still does when I think about it).  The next day was his 90th birthday and our whole family gathered together to celebrate.  I live about 2,000 miles away, so it meant so much for us to be there.

For my project, I worked with

Metallic Chain Cord 348-14-30;
Twill QN14;

I loved all these ribbons.  They were all so rich.  I have to say my favorite was the Metallic Chain Cord.  It is flat and lays great on paper.  It adds a fun sparkly touch to any project.  To create this layout, I started with the Peridot 7 sketch on ScrapbookSteals.com.  My plan is to frame this in a shadow box and hang it up on my wall of family portraits.

Cheers!

Practical Scrappers: Layout Sketch

I had so much fun with the sketch today over at Practical Scrappers.  When I took these photos of my sleepy kids, I knew I wanted to scrap them together.  It is so rare that they both fall asleep at the same time anymore (mama kind of misses that quiet time!).  This sketch allowed me to do that!

Here's the sketch:

And here is my take:

You may recognize the scallops on the side from my Kiwi Lane Blog Hop page.  In honestly, it was my test page, where I realized the scallops were too close together.  I knew I would recycle it, and here it is!  And those loops - they are made with some beading wire.  I love the affect it added!

Cheers!

Practical Scrappers: 10 Things - Vellum

Hi! Welcome back. Practical Scrappers is featuring projects using vellum. I love vellum. It is so versatile. I ran my piece of vellum through my Big Shot, using the Snow Flurries #2 Embossing Folder by Basic Grey/Sizzix. It gives an amazing texture.

Practical Scrapers: 10 Things - Bags

Today's feature on Practical Scrappers is using bags.  For this project, I emptied a glassine bag filled with arrows from one of my Studio Calico kits and filled it with some mini-confetti I had in my stash (some penny steals from Michael's I've had for years).

Using my Sweet Stamp Shop Cherry Blossoms stamp set (I'm entering this card in their Use What You Have Challenge), I stamped and colored the image.  Then out came the sharp pointy scissors and my Xacto knife to cut out the design so you can see the confetti shake through the card.  After filling the bag, I attached it to the white paper with some washi from my stash and attached it to my card base with some foam dots.

I'm also entering this card in ScrapbookSteals.com's Fussy Cutting Monday Craft Madness Challenge.

Thanks for visiting!

Practical Scrappers: 2 Page Layout

Howdy!  Hope you are having a wonderful day.  I'm looking forward to a fun day with my family.  (Hubby is off of work today! YAY!)

Practical Scrappers is featuring 2 page layouts today.  I had fun combining 2-1 page layout sketches from ScrapbookSteals.com.  This is the Peridot 2 and 4 sketches.  You can find these sketches, and all the MidWeek Mojo sketches, here.  The challenge for me was to find a way to make these two pages cohesive with their different backgrounds - which is a huge challenge for me.  I had fun using similar patterns from my May Gossamer Blue kit to give it the look I wanted.  I think the patterns give it a fun look to match the fun (if not wet and booming) celebration on Memorial Day.

PGCB #33: Beachy Time

Is it really Monday again?!?  Time goes too fast!!!  I can't believe it is time again for another Paper Girls Challenge.  I love Heather's beach themed challenge.  I have a ton of beach pictures, but would you believe I decided to go with a card instead?!?

Sweet Stamp Shop has started a Use What You Have Challenge.  I love Sweet Stamp Shop stamps.  They are so fun and whimsical.  I've had the Under the Sea set in my collection for a while and haven't used it.  So I decided this would be a great time - and a fun way to combine challenges.  I also used some Fancy Pants' Like Father Like Son paper, ribbon, and a ribbon slide that I've had in my collection for WAY too long.  My son picked out the Stickles to add a little extra sparkle to the card.

I hope you play along with the Paper Girls Challenge.  You have until June 15th to enter your project on our website.  (Join in the Sweet Stamp Shop one as well!  They start a new challenge every Wednesday.  It is a great way to use some of your older stash.)

I'll be back later this week with some fun 2 page layouts and blog hop (and maybe even a little blog candy to go with it!).

Cheers!
